Questions

Frequently asked

Which business names need a Letter of No-Objection?

Names or business objects that describe information technology activity, such as "Technology", "ICT", "Computer", "Software", "Digital" or "Data". If you're unsure, CAC will tell you during reservation, and the application form flags these words as you type the name.

When do I need a CPN certificate?

Only when the business will provide ICT training, for example an academy, institute or training centre. The certificate must be valid and issued by the Computer Professionals Registration Council of Nigeria.

Can I apply as an individual?

Yes. Choose "Individual" in the first step. You'll still need a CAC name reservation for the business name.

How will I receive the letter?

You'll get an email when it is issued, and you can download the signed PDF from the tracking page. Each letter carries a reference number, a QR code and a verification code.

What if an officer raises a query?

The tracking page shows what's needed. Upload the corrected document or reply there; your application keeps its place in the queue.

Do I need an account to apply?

Yes. Sign in or register first, then the application form opens with your details filled in. Your account is where you follow the application, answer queries and open your certificate.

How does a bank or CAC check my letter is genuine?

Every letter carries a verification code and QR code. Anyone can enter the code under "Verify a letter" on this site to see the holder, certificate number and issue date.

Can I change my details after submitting?

Not directly. If something is wrong, reply to the officer from My applications or contact the LONO desk with your reference, and an officer will update it or raise a query.

Accessibility

Accessibility statement

We want everyone to be able to apply for, track and verify a Letter of No-Objection, whatever device or assistive technology they use.

What we aim for

The LONO Portal aims to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at level AA.

How the portal is built to help

  • Every page and form can be used with a keyboard alone, with a visible focus outline.
  • Form fields have labels, and errors are explained in words next to the field, not by colour alone.
  • Text keeps its layout when you zoom to 200%, and the portal works on phones and tablets.
  • If your device is set to reduce motion, the animation on the home page stops and stamps appear without moving.
  • A dark theme is available from the moon button at the top of every page.
  • Every email we send has a plain-text version alongside the formatted one.

Known limitations

  • Documents uploaded by applicants, such as scanned CAC slips, may not be readable by screen readers.
  • The printed Letter of No-Objection is a fixed-layout document. If you need it in another format, contact the desk.

Tell us about a problem

If something on the portal is hard to use, or you need information in a different format, write to info@nitda.gov.ng or use the contact form. We aim to reply within 2 working days.

Privacy

Privacy notice

How the National Information Technology Development Agency uses your personal data on the LONO Portal, in line with the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023.

Who is responsible

The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), No. 28, Port Harcourt Crescent, Off Gimbiya Street, Area 11, Garki, Abuja, is the data controller for this portal. You can reach our data protection team at info@nitda.gov.ng.

What we collect

  • Your account: name, email address, phone number and password. Passwords are stored only in a scrambled (hashed) form that we can't read.
  • Your applications: whether you apply as an individual or organisation, your address, the proposed business name, CAC availability code, main activity and objective statement.
  • Documents you upload: your CAC name reservation slip, CPN certificate, and any files you send in reply to an officer.
  • Messages to the desk: your name, email address, topic and message.
  • Security records: when you sign in, the IP address used, and the actions officers take on applications.

Why we use it

We use this information to assess and decide applications for a Letter of No-Objection, to contact you about your application, to issue and let others verify letters, to answer your messages, and to keep the portal secure. We process it to carry out NITDA's public functions and, for your account, with the consent you give when you register.

What other people can see

  • Verification: anyone with a letter's verification code can see the business name, the holder's name, the certificate number and the issue date. This lets CAC, banks and partners confirm a letter is genuine.
  • Tracking: anyone with a full application reference can see its progress (submitted, in review, decided). The business name, your details and any officer's notes are shown only when you're signed in.

Who we share it with

Your application is seen by NITDA desk officers. We don't sell your data or use it for marketing. We use service providers to run the portal: our hosting provider and an email delivery service that sends the portal's emails. They act only on our instructions. You share your letter with the Corporate Affairs Commission yourself when you complete registration.

How long we keep it

We keep application records and documents for as long as we need them to decide applications, verify letters already issued, and meet NITDA's record-keeping obligations. Security records are kept for a shorter period.

Cookies

Map: the Contact page shows a Google Maps map of our office. It loads only when you open that page, and Google then receives your IP address and may set its own cookies, under Google's privacy policy.

The portal sets one cookie, lono_sid (shown as __Host-lono_sid on the secure site), only when you sign in, to keep you signed in. It is strictly necessary and is removed when you sign out. We don't use analytics or advertising cookies.

Your rights

Under the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 you can ask to see the personal data we hold about you, ask us to correct or delete it, object to or ask us to limit how we use it, ask for a copy in a portable format, and withdraw your consent. Write to info@nitda.gov.ng. If you're unhappy with how we've handled your data, you can complain to the Nigeria Data Protection Commission.
